The Heart of Christianity: the gospel
God made the world and He lovingly rules over it. God has existed from eternity and depends on neither anyone or anything for life. He is all-powerful, all-knowing, and ever-present. He is holy, meaning that he is morally perfect and set apart from us.
God made men and women in His image to rule over the world under His good authority. However, we have all rejected His authority by choosing to live without him, disregarding his life-giving commands. This rebellion is called sin and it results in death and separation from God forever (Romans 3:23).
Yet, because of His great love, God sent Jesus into the world to rescue sinners like you and me. Jesus is God, and when he lived on earth, he lived perfectly under God’s authority. This means that he didn’t deserve to die, but he chose to die in our place so that God might forgive us (2 Corinthians 5:21). Three days after he died, God raised him from the dead to prove his power over sin and death.
If anyone turns away from their sin and their attempt to rule over their own life, and instead recognizes Jesus as Lord over their life, they can be restored to a right relationship with God, and receive everlasting life through the same power by which Jesus was raised from the dead (Romans 10:9-10).
